Meniere's Disease involves the inner ear and causes a host of symptoms beyond the inability to make out speech in crowded places. The disease causes fluxuating and then progressive hearing loss.

Dr. Robert Cullen, with Saint Luke's Midwest Ear Institute, spoke with KMBZ about hearing loss and Meniere's Disease after Huey Lewis and the News canceled their tour due to hearing loss.

"Genetics play a role, so a family history of hearing loss, noise exposures, viral exposures, toxic exposures, they cause those nerve endings, or hear cells, to deteriorate," Dr. Cullen said.
