A date has been set for the Wright Memorial Hospital walking trail dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting.  Friday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Wright Memorial Hospital will be the date, time and site for this free event for the public to attend which will include a short program and light refreshments.

“I encourage as many people as possible to attend the dedication ceremony and see this wonderful addition to the hospital’s campus,” says Osterthun. “We have several families to recognize and individuals to thank for their contributions towards this project, and this will be an event to see who’s responsible for bringing this trail here for our community.”

The trail is still closed for public use due to remaining work to be completed. Installation of lights by Wired Electrical & Automation of Trenton, sitting area construction by Joe DeVorss Construction of Trenton and Brad Coin Brick Laying of Meadville and landscaping by Chris’ Lawn & Landscaping of Kearney with plantings from Barnes Greenhouse and trees from Rosemary Hill Tree Farm of Trenton all remain to be done in the coming weeks.

The Chuck and Linda Patterson Family Sitting Area will be the first of three sitting areas completed along the trail that includes 101 named bricks that were purchased prior to July of this year.  Those bricks will be used to construct a retaining wall at that sitting area. The Dr. J.A. & Chris Keuhn Sitting Area and the Hedrick Medical Center Sitting Area are set to be constructed during the 2015 spring once 200 more named bricks are purchased.

Wright Memorial Hospital employees raised the initial $26,000 towards the project during an employee campaign, which equaled a 96 percent participation rate hospital-wide in 2012. An additional $150,000 was raised by community members and businesses through contributions and events such as the Wright Run 5k/10k. The Foundation was also awarded a $100,000 grant through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Recreational Trails Program in 2013 for the project.
