Collection Procedure:

1. ACTHP drawn between 6 and 10:30 a.m is desirable.
2. Collect into an iced, pre-chilled lavender top (EDTA) tube, noting the time of collection.
3. After venipuncture, immediately immerse the tubes in an ice bath.

 

Specimen Processing:

1. Spin down in a refrigerated centrifuge within 2 hours and immediately separate plasma from cells.
2. Transfer the plasma into a screw top tube immediately.
3. Freeze plasma immediately and maintain frozen until tested.

Store and Transport:
Frozen (separated plasma)
Stability:

Frozen - 28 days (separated plasma)
Refrigerated - 3 hours (separated plasma)
Room temperature - 2 hours (separated plasma)

Unacceptable Condition:

Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia, frozen whole blood.
