Collection Procedure:

1. Centrifuge the specimen within 24 hours of collection, remove the serum or plasma and transfer to a polypropylene screw-capped tube.
2. If collected in a PPT (plasma preparation tube), samples do not need to have plasma removed and transferred to a separate transport tube, they do need to be spun within 24 hours of collection.
3. To avoid delays in turn around time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, submit separate frozen samples for each test collected.
4. Specimens submitted for HCV genotyping should contain greater than 1000 IU/mL of HCV RNA.

Frozen (preferred), or refrigerate.

Room Temperature - 1 day
Refrigerated - 3 days
Frozen - 3 months

Unacceptable Condition:

Hemolyzed specimens, samples in green top (heparin) tubes, specimens not frozen on the date of collection, PPT tubes not centrifuged, or specimens shipped at room temperature will be rejected.
