Collection Procedure:

Refer to Blue Top Tube (3.2% Sodium Citrate) Collection Instructions

1. Draw 2-3 cc of blood into a blue-top tube containing 3.2% sodium citrate and discard. Fill a second 3.2% sodium citrate tube,making sure to fill the tube to the appropriate level marked on the outside of the tube.

2 .Label the specimen with the patient's full name, date of birth, date of draw, and the initials of the phlebotomist.

3. If other coagulation tests are ordered, a separate specimen must be drawn.

Specimen Processing:

The blue TEG Request Form should accompany the sample. Contact the Blood Bank at 932-2412 if a copy of the form is needed. Send specimen to tube station #12.

Unacceptable Condition:

Tubes that are clotted, hemolyzed, centrifuged, overfilled or under-filled.
