Bethany A. Austin, MD

Bethany Austin, M.D. is a board-certified cardiologist with Saint Luke's Cardiovascular Consultants and is on staff primarily at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. She subspecializes in Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support. She is a Medical Director of the Heart Failure Program, Medical Director of Heart Failure Quality, Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Disease for Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, as well as a Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

Dr. Austin was born in Vermont. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, and her fellowship training in both Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She is board certified in both Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally she is board certified in Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. She performs procedures including transesophageal echocardiograms, cardiac biopsies, and right heart catheterizations.

Dr. Austin is involved in multiple clinical research trials at Saint Luke's involving heart failure. Her clinical and research interests include heart failure, cardiac transplantation, echocardiography, and valvular heart disease. She believes successful treatment of cardiac disease requires open communication and collaboration between doctor and patient. She has been with Saint Luke's Cardiovascular Consultants since 2010.

Dr. Austin has been named a "Regional Top Doctor" and an “Exceptional Woman in Medicine” each year since 2019 by Castle Connolly Top Doctors.
