Verda J. Hicks, MD

Verda Hicks, MD, is a fellowship-trained gynecological oncologist with Saint Luke’s Cancer Specialists. Dr. Hicks has extensive training treating preinvasive vulvar, vaginal, and cervical disease. She is passionate about cancer prevention, especially types of cancer that can be prevented with vaccination, such as cervical, vaginal, vulvar, anal, and head and neck cancers. She also has interest in genetic counseling and testing for patients at risk for familial cancers of breast, uterus, ovary, and colon.
Dr. Hicks is committed to her patient's needs during chemotherapy, as well as post-chemotherapy follow-up and survivorship. A woman's needs during and post-chemotherapy care are unique and sometimes require specialized support. She is honored to share in the health care journey of her patients, and it is her goal to build strong relationships and be a resource in her patients’ care decisions.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hicks has been active in professional organizations including Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP), American College of Surgeons (ACS), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
As a Kansas City native, Dr. Hicks is excited to contribute to the health and well-being of her community. When she is not treating patients, she enjoys being outside, playing piano, singing, dancing, reading, and spending time with her family.
