Anderson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), a department of Anderson County Hospital, was recently awarded a grant from the MFA Oil Foundation to purchase mobile radio communications equipment.
Garnett, Kansas - Anderson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), a department of Anderson County Hospital, was recently awarded a grant from the MFA OilFoundation to purchase mobile radio communications equipment. The county’s new ambulance has operated since late-April using a radio on loan from Colony Fire and Rescue. The grant will allow all-new equipment to be purchased and installed in the ambulance.
The MFA Oil Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that are working to improve communities where MFA Oils has a significant concentration of members and employees. Since it was established in 1998, the MFA Oil Foundation has awarded more than three million dollars in grants.
MFA Oil’s Senior Director of Employee Engagement and Culture Tom May described the MFAOil Foundation as “a program that allows our company to give support back to the rural communities that are the foundation of our business. The grants the Foundation awards help support many youth programs and organizations active in addressing and solving community problems and improving quality of life.”
“Communications is the backbone of public safety operations. Having reliable radiocommunications is vital for us to receive calls and coordinate with other agencies when there is an emergency, and ultimately helps us save lives,” said EMS lead Sherry Schmitz. “It’s an honor to be selected, and we are grateful for the financial support from MFA Oil Foundation.”
Mike Moreland and David Shriver with MFA Oil Company were in Garnett on Wednesday to present the grant award. Schmitz accepted the honor on behalf of Anderson County EMS, with EMS director Troy Armstrong, hospital administrator Jeremy Armstrong, and EMS operations officer Mike Steedley.
