FOX4: Ancient Mummies Focus of Heart Research Led by Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute
Although heart disease is usually thought of as a modern-day condition, a new study shows the disease also plagued the lives of people from the ancient world.
The Global HORUS Study, led by researchers at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, reveals humans are prone to atherosclerosis, a build-up of plaque in the arteries that could lead to a heart attack or stroke.
FOX4 talked to Dr. Randall Thompson, lead author of the study and nuclear cardiologist at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, about the decade-long study of ancient mummies.
