Giant cell tumor of bone is a rare, fast-growing noncancerous tumor. It most often grows in adults between ages 20 and 40 when skeletal bone growth is done. It is slightly more common in women.

Tumors at the base of the skull—behind the eyes and nose, between the ears, or near the pituitary gland—can be difficult to treat. Special surgical skills and expertise are required to protect the brain, as well as critical nerves and blood vessels in the brain, neck, and spinal cord.
