Allen County Regional Hospital Auxiliary Approved Funding for Ultrasound Probe

Iola, Kansas - The Allen County Regional Hospital Auxiliary approved a contribution of $7,800 to Allen County Regional Hospital to purchase a new ultrasound probe.

Jeanna Church, auxiliary president, along with several members, presented the check during a volunteer appreciation luncheon held at the hospital. Tina Poe, Interim Associate Chief Nursing Officer/Director of Patient Care Services, accepted the check on behalf of the hospital.

The new ultrasound probe, which will primarily be used in the hospital's emergency department, provides a detailed view of what's happening in a patient's body in real-time.

“The ultrasound probe can help emergency physicians quickly identify potentially life-threatening injuries and conditions in trauma patients,” said Poe. “Specially trained nurses will also use it to facilitate ultrasound-guided peripheral IV access and PICC line access used to administer fluids and medications.”

“We are truly grateful to our volunteers for their dedication to our hospital and for helping us take the best care of our patients.”

Funds raised by auxiliary members are distributed as contributions to the hospital to purchase equipment and through the auxiliary’s scholarship program. Volunteers raise funds through daily operations of the hospital's gift shop, hosting a variety of special one-day sales events, taking orders for pies and poinsettias seasonally, and through their annual Memory Tree project.

"We’d like to thank the hospital’s employees and patients, as well as our community members, for supporting our fundraising efforts throughout the year and for making this gift possible," said Church.

Volunteers also assist at the hospital’s front reception desk, help at community blood drives, offer a hospitality cart, provide hand-sewn items for patient care, and support other special projects.

The current membership includes around 20 active members and several lifetime members. In 2023, volunteers contributed 2,400 hours of service.

Allen County Regional Hospital Auxiliary 2024 officers are Jeanna Church, President; Donna Culver, Vice-President; Kay Walker, Secretary; and Sharon Utley/Mary Lacy, Co-Treasurers.
