FOX4: Snap Decision by Kidney Patient Helped him Avoid Blizzard, Receive Life-Saving Transplant
Bill Cassleman had been suffering from kidney disease for four years. His dialysis treatment controlled his and his wife, Angela's, life. In September, they moved from Wichita, away from their daughters and nine grandchildren, to Kansas City to live with Angela's parents for two reasons – financial struggles and to be closer to his doctors at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City.
For Thanksgiving, Bill and Angela made the trip to Wichita to spend time with their family. After watching weather reports, they decided to pack up earlier than expected and head back to Kansas City before the weather wouldn’t allow them to make it back. Moments after they returned home, he received a call that there was a match for him. And, after 2 years of being on the transplant list, Bill thought the day he would receive a new kidney would never come.
With the precious gift Bill's donor was wiling to give, he became Saint Luke's 98th kidney transplant this year.
Watch his story with FOX4’s Sean McDowell about how his quick decisions lead to their holiday miracle - Bill's kidney transplant.
