KSHB: Heart Disease Survivor Celebrates Successful Heart Transplant After Rare Diagnosis

Ronnie Metsker was healthy enough to keep up with his active grandchildren, but within the span of six months, he was confined to a hospital bed.

Ronnie was diagnosed with cardiac sarcoidosis, a rare but serious disease where unhealthy tissue or cells take over the heart. A heart transplant was necessary for his survival, so Ronnie said, “We prayed for a miracle."

As he celebrates three years since the transplant, KSHB talked with Ronnie and his cardiologist, Dr. Timothy Fendler, MD, from the Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, about his journey to a healthy heart.
