MEDIA COVERAGE: Kindergarten social and emotional behavior linked to adult success
A new study published in American Journal of Public Health by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation brings to our attention how critical it can be for a child to be able to understand emotions and be able to relate to the world. This study found a link between a child’s social skills in kindergarten to their success as an adult.
The Director of our Trauma Smart program at Crittenton Children’s Center, Susan Pinne, was able to give her thoughts on the study and how important social and emotional skills are for a child’s long term success. Pinne also emphasizes how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) or early trauma impacts the development of social and emotional skills and what parents can do in order to help their child deal with social and emotional stress that could stem from certain experiences.
