MEDIA COVERAGE: Parent Organizes Heart Screening Clinic After Losing Their Child to an Undiagnosed Heart Condition
Sudden cardiac arrest strikes about 100 male and female athletes each year. Most are between the ages of 13 and 25 years old and seven out of 10 will not have warning signs. A simple heart screening could prevent most of those deaths.
Saint Luke's Athletic Heart Clinic partnered with the Emma Aronson Foundation to help screen young athletes. Our Athletic Heart Screening at Saint Luke's East was a tremendous success in many ways. Not only did we screen more high school athletes than at any previous event like this; we also detected several issues, potentially saving lives.
Dr. Anthony Magalski spoke with local media about how important this simple screening can be.
