U.S. News & World Report ranks Saint Luke’s Hospital on list of Best Hospitals, 2017-2018
Saint Luke’s Hospital has been recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s 2017-18 Best Hospitals rankings, released today. The rankings, now in their 28th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
“It is a tremendous honor to again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as providing some of the best care in the nation. It is reflective of the talent and commitment of our Saint Luke’s physicians and nurses who bring the highest level of quality care to their patients each and every day,” said Julie L. Quirin, senior vice president of hospital operations for Saint Luke’s Health System. “We are especially proud for the Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute to join the Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute as being recognized as one of the best programs in the nation in their specialty.”
This designation places Saint Luke’s Neurology & Neurosurgery program among the best in the nation.
Highlights of the program include:
- Among the nation’s elite at the endovascular treatment of acute strokes, treating more strokes than any other hospital in the region
- A Comprehensive Stroke Center certified by the Joint Commission that is a national leader in endovascular interventions and outcomes
- Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center which is the area’s longest continuously operating adult Level 4 Epilepsy Center, offering a full range of medical and surgical evaluation and treatment
- Saint Luke’s Midwest Ear Institute is a nationally recognized pioneer and ongoing leader in cochlear implant technology for adults and children
- Only Midwest provider of asleep Deep Brain Stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor.

For 2017-18, only 146 hospitals were ranked in at least one of the sixteen specialty areas. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S, News recognized hospitals that were high-performing across multiple areas of care.
Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City ranks No. 2 in Missouri, No. 2 in the Kansas City metro area, and is recognized among the Best Hospitals in northwestern Missouri.
Four specialty programs of Saint Luke’s Hospital are nationally ranked in the top 50. Just 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2017-18 earned national ranking in even one specialty.

- Cardiology & Heart Surgery (No. 34)
- Gynecology (No. 48)
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (No. 46)
- Pulmonology (No. 47)
The hospital also ranks as high-performing in four specialty areas:
- Diabetes & Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
- Geriatrics
- Orthopedics
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, quality of nursing care, and other care-related indicators.
