Wright Memorial Hospital and North Central Missouri College partner to offer certification courses
TRENTON, Mo. (July 25, 2011) – Wright Memorial Hospital and North Central Missouri College (NCMC) have entered into an agreement for the purpose of offering Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification courses to Wright Memorial Hospital nurses as well as NCMC nursing students and faculty. The courses will utilize the simulation lab and equipment located on the NCMC campus.
“We are delighted to partner with the college to prepare area providers to effectively respond to life-threatening cardiac events,” said Gary Wages, interim CEO at Wright Memorial Hospital.
The courses will utilize the Senator Christopher S. Bond Allied Health Skills Lab, located in Cross Hall on the NCMC campus. High fidelity manikins are used to simulate emergency situations in the hospital, and instructors are able to manipulate the manikins’ vital signs, electrocardiography (ECG), heart rate and rhythm, breath sounds, and voices to replicate an emergency situation for teaching and testing skills attainment. According to NiChea Spillman, NCMC Skills Lab coordinator, program participants are able to practice the application of skills in a safe environment closely simulating a real patient emergency and then reflect back on their actions with guided leadership.
