What is pain management?

You don't have to suffer from chronic or acute pain. Saint Luke's pain management specialists use:

  • Nerve and spinal cord stimulation
  • Facet joint injections
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Epidural steroid injections
  • Trigger point injections

Our team creates personalized treatment plans to decrease pain, increase mobility, and reduce dependency on pain medication. We are committed to helping improve our patients’ quality of life.

Chronic Pain

When pain lasts for a long period of time—for at least three months—it is considered chronic pain. This includes pain that you feel regularly, but not necessarily all the time. Chronic pain may be a result of a lingering injury or disease.

Examples of chronic pain include:

  • Joint degeneration (arthritis)
  • Back injury
  • Nervous system damage (neuropathic pain)
  • Headaches

Acute Pain

Acute pain is sudden pain caused by an underlying issue. Once the source of the pain is healed, the pain usually goes away.

Examples of acute pain include:

  • Broken bones
  • Wounds
  • Childbirth
  • Surgery
