Voters approve new hospital for Anderson County
On April 2, voters in Anderson County, Kan., approved a $25 million bond issue to build a new Anderson County Hospital (ACH) directly behind the current facility.
Community supporters, board members, ACH employees, and SLHS leaders worked tirelessly for the past several months educating area residents about the need for a new facility and its important role in Anderson County’s future.
For several years, ACH board members and supporters evaluated the long-term costs of updating and maintaining the current hospital, which was built in 1949. A 1999 renovation added space and improved the building’s appearance, but it didn’t address structural problems. And although the hospital has continued providing quality care, the facility’s lack of space and age-related issues limited staff from adding new services.
A needs assessment performed by an independent architectural firm showed that building a new facility was the best solution.
While Anderson County owns the hospital, SLHS will increase its lease payment and provide nearly $2 million in new equipment and furnishings. SLHS will also take over the cost of maintaining and replacing equipment, which will save Anderson County about $500,000 annually.
The new hospital’s amenities will include:
- 2 surgical suites
- 12 exam rooms for the growing outpatient clinics
- Improved Emergency Department access
- Enhanced patient comfort, convenience, and privacy
