KSHB: 'Dogs on Call' Volunteer Time to Comfort Hospice Patients and Families
Saint Luke's Hospice House has a very special team of four-legged volunteers that come by every week.
The program started several years ago is called "Dogs on Call." It provides patients and family members with a little bit of normalcy or a much-needed break during what can be the most difficult time of their lives.
"We have teams of 22 dogs and their owners that come, sometimes expressly, on any given time of the week," said Saint Luke's Hospice House Volunteer Coordinator Llinos Leisy. "Others are available, just to come, even in the middle of the night, if that would be."
KSHB talked to one volunteer, Tom, about the impact his dog, Husker, has had on many patients and families.
