KSHB: Pinwheels for Prevention: Children Learn About Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness
Every 10 seconds, a report of child abuse is made nationwide. As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City's Crittenton Children's Center talked to sixth grade students at Plaza Middle School.
Students learned about how to spot warning signs of physical, emotional, or psychological abuse and how to report it. They also made pinwheels-- the national symbol for child abuse prevention.
"We're just here to raise awareness to get the idea and thought into kids' brains and to make them aware of their surroundings, make them aware of their friends with the goal being safety," said Marion Morris, a supervisor of family engagement at Crittenton Children's Center.
