KSHB: Immunotherapy Helps Local Woman Beat Uncommon Form of Cancer
After being diagnosed with a rare and deadly form of blood cancer, a Kansas City woman is now beating the odds with the help of immunotherapy.
Mary Davis was diagnosed with stage 3 multiple myeloma back in 2015 after her brother passed away from the same type of cancer. Now, she is in full remission.
KSHB talked to Dr. Shahzad Raza, a hematologic oncologist at Saint Luke's Cancer Institute, about recent medical advances for the cancer and how more cases are being diagnosed in the U.S.
"Maybe it's the physician awareness, more testing, incidental finding-- all of those things are contributing to this diagnosis," Raza said.
