KSHB: CDC links vitamin E acetate to vaping illness outbreak
The CDC announced investigators have discovered an ingredient that may be to blame for the deadly vaping illness outbreak.
Vitamin E acetate was found in the lungs of 29 people with vaping-related injuries.
KSHB spoke to Dr. Vincent Lem with Saint Luke's Pulmonary Specialists about what this ingredient is and why it's dangerous when vaped.
"When you heat it up to 300 degrees like you do with an electronic cigarette, and you inhale the vapors of an oil, that's a lot different than having room-temperature oil on your skin," Dr. Lem said.
