Saint Luke’s Innovation Week Profile: Dr. Anna Grodzinsky
“Research is a creative complement to the clinical world."
Since Dr. Anna Grodzinsky was a toddler, she has dreamt of being a doctor, and she can’t imagine herself doing anything else. Dr. Grodzinsky is a non-invasive cardiologist based at Saint Luke's North Hospital, a dedicated cardiovascular researcher, and the clinical scholar for the Muriel I. Kauffman Women’s Heart Center. She is a proud UMKC alum and has published more than 25 manuscripts. Her job is 60% clinical and 40% research, which offers a nice balance and allows her to understand how research translates to improvement in outcomes of care.
“Research is a creative complement to the clinical world," Dr. Grodzinksy said. "You are able to think more critically about how you approach medicine today, and how we are able to do it better yet.”
Dr. Anna Grodzinsky shares a personal connection to her patients with heart conditions during pregnancy, which has informed her practice and research. Having type I diabetes, she found herself in the care of Saint Luke’s Maternal Fetal-Medicine during her own pregnancy. Dr. Grodzinsky’s personal experience with high-risk pregnancy has deeply shaped her patient-centered care approach.
Dr. Grodzinsky is proud that Saint Luke’s recognizes research, collaboration, and education are important pillars to our institutional health and growth.
“We are at a nice intersection where our clinical experience is paralleling with our women’s heart research. We are constantly analyzing and using our findings to spur ideas to promote better care. This robust research environment will benefit our patients with cardiac conditions in pregnancy, preeclampsia, and microvascular angina, just to name a few. I’m excited about where we are headed.”
