About John Spertus, MD
John Spertus, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiologist with Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute. He is the Clinical Director of Outcomes Research at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute and the Lauer Missouri Endowed Chair and Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. His research focuses on personalized medicine, measuring outcomes and health care quality, and the use of information technology to guide medical decision making.
Dr. Spertus received the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, and has been recognized by the AHA as a Distinguished Scientist in 2018 for research that has advanced the understanding of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
With more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles published each year in well-respected medical journals, the Saint Luke’s Cardiovascular Outcomes Research team is a trusted source of quality research. Led by John Spertus, MD MPH, a world-class researcher and "Highly Cited Researcher" as named by ClarivateTM, the group focuses on addressing key gaps in medical knowledge to improve care and outcomes for patients. Studies published by Dr. Spertus are consistently deemed significant by his peers, placing him in the top one percent of authors cited in research.
