KMBC: Saint Luke's heart transplant recipient completes 50-mile Grand Canyon hike
Just over two years after receiving a life-saving heart transplant at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, Nate Miller, 33, achieved an enormous feat by hiking a 50-mile treck through the Grand Canyon in hopes of inspiring other transplant patients.
"There is life after transplant--being able to go to the gym or go for a bike ride outside, and it's so much more special to me now than it ever was before," Nate said.
Nate went on the hike with a group of 14 led by Dr. Paul Chan, a cardiologist at Saint Luke's, who celebrated his 10th year doing the annual fundraiser. This year, the group raised more than $121,000 for CROP Hunger Walk. The proceeds go toward sustainable solutions in other countries and several local programs in Kansas City. See more about the walk here.
KMBC talked to Nate and Dr. Chan about the impressive journey and how far Nate has come.
