KSHB: Patient helps raise awareness for NASH
June 10 is International NASH Day, a day where doctors and researchers try to raise awareness and visibility about a prevalent and serious health condition that is only expected to worsen over the next twenty years. While many people may not be familiar with NASH, doctors say it is important to raise awareness and decrease risk factors for this potentially fatal disease.
NASH, or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, is a form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is the leading cause of end-stage liver diseases worldwide. According to a recent report, experts predict NASH will increase by 63% over the next twenty years.
Steve Lack, a patient at Saint Luke’s Liver Disease Management, talks to KSHB about his journey with NASH, why he participated in a clinical trial for NASH, and why he still comes to Dr. Laura Alba, Medical Director of Hepatology, even though he moved nearly three hours away.
