Diabetes in Pregnancy Program
Pregnant women with diabetes are at higher risk for complications—both to themselves and their unborn baby. Potential risks to the mother include preeclampsia, cesarean section delivery, diabetic ketoacidosis, and eye disease. Babies are at increased risk for birth defects, abnormal fetal growth, preterm birth, low blood sugar, jaundice, and stillbirth.
The experts at Saint Luke’s Diabetes in Pregnancy Program can help lessen these risks through preconception consultation, co-management with an obstetrician, and total obstetrical care. We care for women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes, providing dietary counseling, glucometer training, ongoing blood sugar assessment, and medication management.
