Biography

Sreeni Jonnalagadda, M.D., FASGE, joined Saint Luke’s GI Specialists in 2012. He has extensive experience and expertise in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy to manage diverse gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreas diseases. He is a Professor of Medicine at UMKC and the Medical Director/Chief of Saint Luke’s Gastroenterology Specialists group.

Prior to joining Saint Luke’s, Dr. Jonnalagadda was professor of medicine and director of Pancreatic and Biliary Endoscopy at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he practiced for 13 years. Following medical school at Goa Medical College, India, residency at Saint Louis University Hospital, and fellowship at University of Missouri–Kansas City, he trained in advanced endoscopic procedures at the world-renowned Wellesley Hospital in Toronto.

Dr. Jonnalagadda has an extensive list of publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. He has been invited to speak at numerous national and international venues on interventional endoscopy. Working with the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), he has taught practicing gastroenterologists and trainees regionally, nationally, and internationally over the last 20 years. He has been a member of various ASGE boards over the last two decades including the Health and Public Policy committee, Scientific Program committee, Bariatrics Task Force and the Institute for Training and Technology committee. The scope of this educational effort includes established techniques as well as evolving technology and paradigms for disease management within the interventional endoscopy arena. Dr. Jonnalagadda is also interested in the next generation of endoscopic platforms and the expanding frontiers of endoscopy. The first TransOral Gastroplasty (TOGA) procedure in the United States was performed at the Washington University School of Medicine by Dr. Jonnalagadda in 2008. In Kansas City, he has directed the annual Digestive Diseases Conference which focuses on new paradigms for the management of gastrointestinal disease, utilizing both local and nationally renowned speakers.

Dr. Jonnalagadda collaborates closely with hepatologists, hepatobiliary, and transplant surgeons, other surgical subspecialties, oncologists, and diagnostic and interventional radiologists in Saint Luke’s Health System to provide optimal care for patients. These collaborations occur via referral/consultations to optimize and streamline patient care as well as biweekly scheduled multidisciplinary conferences.
