Patient Preparation:

A previous bone marrow transplant from an allogenic donor will interfere with testing. For instructions for testing patients who have received a bone marrow transplant, call Reference Lab at 816-932-2424. Reference Lab will contact Mayo for further instructions.

Required Patient Info:

The Molecular Genetics: Congenital Inherited Diseases Patient Information form must be completed to be sent with sample.

Insurance preauthorization is strongly recommended.

Container Type:
Lavender top (EDTA) or ACD tube
Specimen Type:

Whole blood (If testing requested on amniotic fluid or CVS, send to IG)
 

Preferred Volume:
3 mL EDTA or ACD whole blood
Minimum Volume:
1 mL EDTA or ACD whole blood
Collection Procedure:

1. Invert several times to mix blood.
2. Send whole blood specimen in original tube. Do not aliquot.

Specimen Processing:

Specimen preferred to arrive at Mayo within 96 hours of collection.

Store and Transport:
Room temperature
Stability:
  • Room Temperature - 4 days
  • Refrigerated - 4 days
Unacceptable Condition:

Blood specimens that are not in original tube.
