Viral, Chlamydia, or Mycoplasma culture transport or other appropriate transport medium
Specimen Type:

Swab specimens containing epithelial cells of conjunctiva, cervix, posterior nasopharynx, throat, rectum or urethra. Do NOT use swabs with a wooden shaft.

Preferred Volume:
One swab
Collection Procedure:

Submit one specimen per test requested. Specify the exact specimen source/origin (e.g. genital lesion). Indicate the specific test number on the request form.

Specimen Processing:

Enter the source in the HLAB prompt.

Store and Transport:
Refrigerated
Stability:

Transport and store at room temperature for up to 24 hours after the specimen is placed in UTM-RT transport media, or refrigerate.

Unacceptable Condition:

Bacterial swab specimen, specimen received in grossly leaking transport container, dry specimen, specimen submitted in fixative or additive, specimen received in expired transport media or incorrect transport device, inappropriate specimen transport conditions, specimen received after prolonged delay in transport (usually more than 72 hours).
