Collection Procedure:

Stool in Sterile Container:

1.Collect and Transfer Sample: After the patient has provided stool in a clean, dry pan or special container, place stool in a specimen cup and fasten the lid securely. Not: bloody, slimy or watery stool should be selected and sampled.  Formed stools will be Canceled.
2. Label and send: Apply a printed label with the patient’s full name, date of birth, identification number, date and time of collection.  Write the initials of the person collecting the specimen and the specimen source on the label.  Send it to the lab at room temperature within 1 hour.

Store and Transport:
Preserved specimens are stable for 24 hours at room temperature, or 5 days at 2-8°C.
Unacceptable Condition:

Specimens will be rejected if the following is received:

1. Formed stool
2. Stool submitted in transport media or swab
3. Rectal swab 
4. Stool received at room temperature (20 - 30 °C) > 24 hours old
5. Stool received refrigerated (2–8 °C) > 5 days old
