Specimen Type:

Liver tissue

Preferred Volume:
At least 1 cm long liver tissue specimen obtained with an 18 gauge needle at 2-8 C.
Alternate Specimens:
Specimens other than paraffin-embedded should be stored and transported in a metal-free container such as a royal blue top (no additive). Formalin is acceptable, but not preferred.
Store and Transport:
In a paraffin block, preserved (formalin) or dried: Room temperature
Fresh tissue - Refrigerated

Stability:

In a paraffin block, preserved (formalin) or dried:
Frozen - indefinitely
Refrigerated - indefinitely  
Room temperature - indefinitely

Fresh tissue:
Frozen - indefinitely
Refrigerated - 1 week
Room temperature - unacceptable

Unacceptable Condition:

Samples less than 0.25 mg (dry weight) and paraffin blocks that have been processed with Hollande's or other copper containing stain will be rejected.
