Specimen Type:
Submit organism on Middlebrook 7-H10, 7-H11, or Lowenstein-Jensen medium. Organism must be in pure culture, actively growing, placed in a proper mailing container, and labeled as an etiologic agent.
Alternate Specimens:
Agar plates are acceptable, but should not be mailed.
Collection Procedure:
1. Label the container with the patient's full name, date of birth, identification number, date and time of collection, and initials of the person collecting the specimen, and the specimen source.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
3. The specimen source is required on the request form for processing.
