Collection Procedure:
Collect blood in three tubes, 5 mL each of lavender top (EDTA) or PPT™ tubes.
Specimen Processing:
CENTRIFUGE THE TUBES WITHIN 6 HOURS OF COLLECTION, REMOVE THE PLASMA AND TRANSFER TO A SEPARATE SCREW CAP TUBE AND FREEZE. IF THE SAMPLE IS COLLECTED IN PPT™ TUBES, THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THE PLASMA AND PLACE IN A SEPARATE TRANSPORT TUBE. IT DOES NEED TO BE SPUN WITHIN 6 HOURS OF COLLECTION.

Unacceptable Condition:
Insufficient quantity, green top (heparin) tube used, unspun PPT™ tube, or unfrozen samples.
Limitations:
This procedure may not be successful when the HIV viral load is <500 copies/mL plasma.
