Specimen Processing:
1. Centrifuge the tube within 6 hours of collection.
2. Remove the plasma to a separate transport tube and freeze plasma in a screw cap polypropylene tube.
3. If the sample is collected in a PPT tube, there is no need to remove the plasma and place in a separate transport tube. It does need to be spun within 6 hours of collection.

Stability:
Specimens may be received at LabCorp unfrozen if they are in a PPT tube or plasma has been separated from the cells.
Unacceptable Condition:
Specimens with hemolysis, drawn in green top heparin, unspun PPT tube, or at room temperature for more that 24 hours will be rejected.
Method:
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and DNA sequencing
Notes:
This only tests for the two integrase drugs. If genotyping is requested, refer to HIV-1 GENOSURE PRIME.
