EPIC Test Procedure Code: LAB3264
Avoid vitamin C supplements and vitamin C-rich foods (eg, citrus fruits like oranges, orange juice; vegetables like broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes) for 48 hours prior to collection.
24 hour urine collection. Alternately, a pour-off sample from a 24 hour urine collection is acceptable but client must measure 24 hour urine volume and indicate the amount on the requisition.
24 Hour Urine Collections:
1. To begin the collection, instruct the patient to void at 8 AM or 8 PM and discard this urine.
2. Collect all urine excreted during the next 24 hours in the urine collection container. The urine container may remain at room temperature.
3. Exactly 24 hours after the collection was begun, empty the bladder for the last time. Add this urine to the 24 hour urine container. The collection is finished.
4. Label the container with the patient's name and date and time the collection started and finished.
1. Enter the urine total volume in the MLAB prompt.
2. Specimens submitted without preservative should be acidified after receipt to pH <3 with 6N HCL prior to aliquoting.
3. State the patient's age and sex on the request form.

- Frozen - 8 weeks (Freeze/thaw cycles: Stable x3)
