Cervical swab

1. The specimen must arrive within 1 hour of collection for saline tube or 24 hours for Eswab.
2. Collect the smear using an Eswab system (clear Amies medium without gel).
3. Label the tube with the patient’s full name, date of birth, identification number, date and time of collection, initials of the person collecting the specimen, and the specimen source. 
4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. 
5. The specimen source is required on the request form for processing.

1. Any samples from males are not acceptable.
2. Urine specimens are not acceptable.
3. Cervical specimens collected in a vaginitis panel transport tube are not acceptable.
