*** Special Handling ***
Whole Blood for PFA-100 ®:
1. Do not centrifuge.
2. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly (must arrive within 2 hours of draw) at room temperature only.
3. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood for PFA-100 ®).
Sodium Citrate Plasma for all Others:
1. Centrifuge at 2,500 rpm for 10 minutes. Immediately transfer plasma to stoppered, plastic tubes and centrifuge again at 2,500 rpm for 10 minutes.
2. Transfer supernatant plasma into 2 screw-capped, plastic vials (each containing approximately 1 mL) and send frozen at ≤ -20 °C, if possible.
3. If unable to centrifuge, forward unprocessed sodium citrate whole blood (minimum volume: 2 mL) to laboratory promptly at ambient temperature only.
4. Unspun specimen must arrive within 4 hours of draw.
5 Label specimen appropriately (plasma for all others).
