RESOLVE: Revolutionary Tool that Individualizes Stroke Treatment Developed at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City
Every second equals brain cells lost when you're having a stroke. Director of Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute’s Cardiovascular Outcomes Research program, Dr. John Spertus, worked with colleagues at Tufts University and UCLA to develop a new stroke assessment tool called RESOLVE which assists emergency room physicians when determining whether to administer the clot-busting drug tPA. Given to the right patient, tPA will break up a clot and stop a stroke. Given to the wrong patient, tPA may cause bleeding. Using RESOLVE, physicians may quickly make better informed decisions about whether to recommend the use of tPA for an individual patient, providing an increased opportunity for the best outcome.
