MEDIA COVERAGE: Saint Luke's medical staff honored for saving detective from flesh-eating bacteria

The Lee's Summit Police Department honored members of the Saint Luke's Staff for their amazing care, compassion, hospitality and dedication to Detective Josh Ward who was diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis last April. Seven members from all area's of his care where honored at the department's annual award ceremony and Saint Luke's Health System was given a plaque to be recognized for the care we provided him, his family and his work family. 

Josh benefited from the full resources of our comprehensive health care system – from his initial treatment at Saint Luke’s East Hospital to the life-saving care he received at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City to the ongoing rehabilitation he’ll continue as an outpatient at Saint Luke’s.

In total, Josh spent 90 days in the hospital, underwent 24 surgeries, and was cared for by more than 150 health care professionals -- 92 on the surgical team alone.

Though his particular situation was unique, the high quality, comprehensive, seamless care he received was not. It reflects the passion, commitment, dedication, and skill delivered day in and day out by our physicians, nurses, and clinicians, as well as the depth and breadth of services delivered by a system of our size.

We consider it is a privilege to do the work we do. And it’s a joy to celebrate successes like Josh Ward's - for Saint Luke’s, for the Lee’s Summit police department, and, most importantly, for Josh and his family.
