Collection Procedure:

1. Draw blood (protect from light) and immediately separate the plasma from the red cells.
2. Protect the specimen from light by placing the plasma in an amber plastic transport tube with amber top.
3. If an amber tube is not available, cover a standard plastic transport tube completely, from top to bottom, with aluminum foil.
4. Identify the patient’s name directly on the container and on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape.

Unacceptable Condition:

Specimens not protected from light, anticoagulant other than EDTA.
