CITRATE RN U

Citrate, Random Urine

EPIC Test Procedure Code: LAB3451

Performing Lab:
Referral Laboratory
Container Type:
Monovette (R) with pH stabilizer or random urine transport tube
Specimen Type:

Random urine

Preferred Volume:
2 mL
Minimum Volume:
1 mL (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.)
Collection Procedure:

Collect random urine and transfer to a Monovette (R) with pH stabilizer  (Monovette (R) instructions accompany units) or random urine transport tube.

Specimen Processing:

Urine must be acidified (pH 1-3) or  frozen without the addition of acid.

Store and Transport:
Refrigerate if acidified,
freeze if not acidified
Stability:

Frozen - 49 days (Freeze/thaw cycles: Stable x5)
Refrigerated - 29 days
Room temperature - 29 days

Unacceptable Condition:

Samples in which there is unpreserved specimen that has not been frozen or if boric acid has been used as the preservative will be rejected. (Boric acid ≥1250 mg/dL may cause citrate results to be reduced by approximately 30%).

Multivitamin ≥397.5 mg/dL (estimated as 1 pill per day) may cause citrate results to be unmeasureable. Results of interference testing may not be representative of in-vivo characteristics of multivitamin consumption.

CPT Codes:

82507 - Citric Acid Citrate Random Urine (EAP 30021158)

Method:
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) or Enzymatic
