Patient Preparation:
Do NOT draw the sample until the patient has been awake for at least 2 hours.

Plain red top tube, serum gel tube or lavender top (EDTA) tube, OR green-top (heparin) tube
Specimen Type:
Serum (preferred) or plasma
Preferred Volume:
2 mL
Minimum Volume:
1 mL
Specimen Processing:
1. Separate the serum or plasma from the cells within 45 minutes of collection.
2. Transfer the serum or plasma to a plastic transport tube with screw cap and freeze.
3. To avoid delays in turn around time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, submit separate frozen samples for each test requested.
