Kansas City Business Journal: An Inside Look at Saint Luke's New Community Hospital
Saint Luke's Health System has opened its first Community Hospital at 13200 State Line Road in Leawood. The compact micro-hospital, one of many planned for the metro, offers inpatient and emergency services on a smaller scale.
It holds eight beds for emergency services and eight for inpatient care, as well as a pharmacy, in-house laboratory, and imaging. The main focus of the micro-hospital model is convenience, saving a trip to the downtown emergency room.
For example, one patient who had been waiting for 90 minutes at another hospital drove to the community hospital, where the entire visit took 30 minutes.
"That's the level of care we want to provide to patients," Dr. Marc Larsen, Saint Luke's Community Hospital medical director, told the Kansas City Business Journal. "Once people start learning more about this model, they'll understand the benefit to what we're doing."
