Integrative Therapies

By combining advanced medicine with integrative therapies, our team can ease many of the symptoms of treatment and enhance a patient's quality of life. Our practitioners are experts in working specifically with patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, and their work can play a role in slowing tumor growth.

Behavioral health

Behavioral health specialists help meet the emotional, physical, and interpersonal needs of patients' and their loved ones during treatment and survivorship. Examples include:

  • Emotional and practical aspects of a cancer diagnosis
  • Quality-of-life issues
  • Stress reduction and management
  • Sleep management
  • Pain management
  • Anxiety and sadness
  • End of life discussions and planning
  • Smoking cessation

Social services

In addition to a general psychosocial assessment to evaluate well-being and support, social work providers can assess the following needs and concerns:

  • Living and housing
  • Financial and insurance
  • Workplace/leave
  • Medication
  • Transportation
  • Community resources

Physical therapy

A licensed physical therapist can evaluate and identify impairments and provide individualized treatment including:

  • Disease-related impairments, including range of motion, strength, flexibility, tolerance, and endurance
  • An individualized home exercise program
  • A walking program to reduce fatigue
  • Education regarding safety of exercise
  • Functional mobility, balance, and safety, as well as assistive devices

Genetic counseling

A certified genetic counselor will analyze the patient's personal and family history of cancer, assesses risk factors for cancer, and recommend cancer screening options.
