FOX4: FDA testing promising treatment for COVID-19
President Trump announced Thursday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is fast-tracking testing of a promising medication to treat COVID-19.
Chloroquine is a medication currently approved to treat malaria, but some studies show it may help treat the novel coronavirus as well.
FOX4 talked to Dr. Sarah Boyd, Saint Luke's Health System Medical Director for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infectious Disease Evidence-Based Practice Team Chair, about what this could mean for patients.
"I think it has a lot of potential utility, not only in treatment, but also looking to see if that has any other protective effects, and so I think it's a promising possibility for treatment in human infection," Dr. Boyd said.
