FOX4: Local WWII veteran battling coronavirus, working toward recovery
Ninety-nine-year-old Max DeWeese says he has been in much tougher situations.
The former Marine fought in World War II and in Japan, earning two Purple Hearts for his service.
Now, he's fighting a different battle — this time with the coronavirus. The war hero was taken to Saint Luke's South Hospital with symptoms on Friday and is working toward recovery.
"Max is doing wonderful. His spirits are always high," his friend Paul Chapa told FOX4. "For someone that’s 99 years old, this guy — you would never think it when you talk to him on the phone or meet him in person because he has so much energy, and he’s so sharp."
