Courier Tribune: Saint Luke’s robot brings new surgical options to Northland patients

Saint Luke’s North Hospital welcomed a new surgical robot to the Barry Road location’s operating room. The intuitive da Vinci robot arrived in May, with the first surgery performed in early June.

The da Vinci robot will allow more advanced procedures to be performed at the Saint Luke’s North Hospital–Barry Road campus, keeping patients closer to home. Procedures include bariatric, colorectal, gynecological and general surgeries.

This state-of-the-art robotic technology allows Saint Luke’s surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures, states a hospital release. Throughout the health system, Saint Luke’s has helped 6,000 people with the assistance of robotic technology since 2002.

The Courier Tribune talked to Dr. Benjamin Kulow, colorectal surgeon with Saint Luke's Surgical Specialists, about the advantages of robotic surgery and how the new technology is advancing patient care in the Northland.
