Wellness in Schools (WinS) Program

The Hedrick Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors announced a new program for Livingston County students in grades K-12: the Wellness in Schools (WinS) student health program.

Betty Preston Steele, Hedrick Medical Center Foundation Board President, shared details of the program, "We are partnering with the area schools including the Chillicothe, Chula, Southwest and Tina-Avalon school districts, to help provide health care to under- or uninsured students who live in Livingston County. School nurses and/or administrators will make referrals for students who have an acute health need and the process will move forward from there.”

These referrals will cover the cost of a basic office visit with an advanced practice provider or a physician at the Hedrick Family Care clinic to assess the student’s health care needs. There will be no cost to the student or their family.  Additionally, the WinS program is working in partnership with local pharmacies to provide any needed medications that arise from these appointments.

According to Lindy Chapman, HMC Foundation Development Officer, the program’s goals include assisting students and families with their health care needs, as well as helping to decrease school absences.
